Biography

2011

Stephanie Aitken is a painter living in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her series Headlands has been presented at The Helen Pitt Gallery ARC in Vancouver (Headlands, 2005), at Eye Level Gallery in Halifax (Mount Analog, 2007) and at Platform Centre in Winnipeg (Added Value, 2009). Her work has been written about and published in The Vancouver Review, The Walrus, C Magazine and Border Crossings. Stephanie's current project, a series of landscape-based paintings inspired by coastal British Columbia and regional modes of abstraction was recently presented at Deluge Contemporary Art in Victoria (New Land Paintings, 2011). Currently in production are a series of limited edition hooked rugs based on several paintings in this series. Stephanie is a recent recipient of production grants from The Canada Council and from The British Columbia Arts Council. She teaches at Emily Carr University and at Langara College in Vancouver.
